Everett is the county seat of Snohomish County, the third most-populous county in Washington State with well over 700,000 people. The city is a port where the Snohomish River empties into Possession Sound, part of Puget Sound. Though a railroad center since its creation, Everett's largest employer now is the Boeing aircraft company with nearly 40,000 employees. The Empire Builder arrives and departs at "Everett Station" which is the city's transportation hub, also serving Amtrak Cascades trains to Mount Vernon, Bellingham, and Vancouver, BC, intercity buses, and local transit.
