Wenatchee is the county seat of Chelan County, Washington. The Wenatchee metropolitan area has a population over 100,000 which includes adjacent Douglas County and the city of East Wenatchee. The Amtrak station in Wenatchee is also served by local transit. Wenatchee is best known for its status as "The Apple Capital of the World" due to the many orchards in the area, and is located at the confluence of the Columbia and Wenatchee Rivers. Several hydroelectric dams are located along the Columbia River near Wenatchee, with Rock Island Dam east of Wenatchee being clearly visible from the Empire Builder.
